Our History
Mike Holland lived in the Comox Valley since Kindergarten when his air force family was posted here. He began school at Airport Elementary until his family was posted to Halifax for 3 years, followed by a year in Nelson while his Dad was posted to Puntzi Mountain in Northern BC before being posted back to the Valley where Mike finished his schooling at Lake Trail, Courtenay High School (before it was became Courtenay Junior) and then Vanier Secondary.
He worked for a few years after high school before going into science and math at U.B.C., was accepted into Law school there and completed his articling with Courtenay lawyer, Jim Dow, after which he was called to the Bar. He was fortunate enough to be able to set up his law practice in 1985 within 100 yards of where he always wanted to work. With his practice becoming busier, Mike and Chris Cameron became partners in 1991, working together and expanding their law practice for 27 years. They were helped throughout that time by accomplished assistants, many of whom were long-time staff members. Mike was married for 271/2 years, had 2 daughters whom he loved dearly and was very proud of and was delighted to welcome the birth of his first grandchild in 2018. He was an avid golfer and had a quick sense of humour.
Mike Holland was a very experienced all- around lawyer, appearing many times successfully in all levels of Court from Provincial Court, Supreme Court to Court of Appeal. In addition, Mike had an active solicitor’s practice in conveyancing, wills, estates and other estate planning.
Mike was extensively involved in his community, on City Council, Regional District, crisis centre, St. Joseph’s Hospital board, Rotary, Kinsmen, Sid Williams theatre board, hospice board, Glacier View Lodge, regional hospital board, recreation board, sewer and water board.
Mike was recognized for his achievements with the George Muir Award for Courage, Citizenship award from the Town of Comox, Volunteer of the Year award from Glacier View Lodge and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medal.
